Getting in the Spirit!

It is a VERY busy week here at One Preppy Cookie. We are working on everything from beers and crabs to "sassy" birthday, butterflies, flowers, cocktails and a LOT of patriotic cookies. So, instead of a lengthy post, I will instead give you a sneak peak of the July 4th spirit going on in our kitchen. I don't know about you all, but I am certainly looking forward to the holiday weekend!

Have a wonderful day!

Sip and See - Cookies for Kate!

My friend from high school, sorority sister and coworker (yeah, we have a lot in common) just welcomed her second baby in May. This past weekend we celebrated Kate's arrival with a 'Sip and See.' As my husband said when he saw the (adorable) invitation on the fridge, "You girls will think of any reason to have a party." ;) Why yes we will and a fabulous celebration it was!

The hostesses went all out with a tea party brunch themed in pink and green with monograms. Being that this is RIGHT up my alley, I was happy to bring some cookies along to the celebration. I hand piped the monograms out of chocolate in advance and think they were certainly suitable for the guest of honor!

Congratulations once again K - we love having your sweet Kate here!

Friendly Competition & Graduation Parties

It is certainly graduation season around One Preppy Cookie. Having lived in the area I went to high school in for many years (18 to be exact) I am still aware of my school's rivalries. So, it was funny when my friend (who coincidentally I went to high school with and has MAJOR school spirit) ordered not only rival high school cookies, but the graduate is going on to attend a MAJOR college football competitor of my beloved Hokies. I justified it by keeping in mind that we both play in the ACC, so it's important to keep rivalries friendly. ;) We decided on a mix of high school and college and worked in a few child-friendly grad cookies as well.

Thank you so much MaryJo - I really appreciate your support and promise to start a trial run on your Twilight cookies sooner than later!

Keeping along the graduation lines, about 2 weeks ago I was able to make cookies for a graduate of my high school who is heading on to my college alma mater as well. So, from rivalries to allies, congratulations to every 2011 graduate! The best is yet to come.

Thank you Amy - my friend who shares oh so many interests with me! ;)

Flower Power

My parents have always been big into their flower gardens. Growing up, my dad would cut homemade flowers for me every week and arrange them in a vase at my bedside. (He still does that weekly around the house and often offers a "to go" bouquet.) There was a time that I did not have any interest in gardening, but they all changed about six years ago. Now there a few things I enjoy doing more than going out in the evenings to check on the progress of my flowers.

It always makes me happy when people ask me for flower cookies since they hold such a fond place in my heart. There is something very simple about them, but also a simplistic elegance. These are daisies that I have put in several orders and since they are easily lost in the shuffle, I thought I would give them their own attention this morning.

Happy Friday - I hope you all have a great weekend!

For the Love of Shoes and Purses

My mom has forever had a good sense of style (I have her college photos to prove it.) I think she always looks good and find it only fitting that she has spent many years working in clothing and accessories stores. She asked me to make her a batch of shoe and purse cookies for a work meeting recently and told me that they were very well received!

(Sorry for the poor Blackberry photo...unfortunately I forgot to photograph these.)

Thanks for showing me off mom!

Happy Anniversary!

My brother has the sweetest girlfriend. My entire family really likes her. She was the recipient of one of my first batches of cookies and always asks after this endeavour whenever I see her. So when she asked me to make cookies for her parents' 30th wedding anniversary, I was more than happy to do it. Thirty years is quite an accomplishment and I would like to wish her parents 30 more happy years together!

Thank you Rachel!

Bow Ties

I love planning showers and parties. I currently do not have the space to host them at home often, but I have a binder full of party ideas awaiting the time in my life when I truly have the space to entertain. Front and center in the binder is this adorable shower, so you can imagine how happy I was to receive an email saying that two lovely ladies were using this very shower as inspiration and asking if I would be willing to make bow tie cookies for it. I agreed with enthusiasm and loved making these! I even received photos of them AT the event after the fact, which I of course really appreciated.

Thank you so much Christy and Kris!

The (Preppy) Bachelorette!

It's amazing to me how many people read this blog and I am so thankful that they do as it's so much more fun to do this when you know people are actually following along. It's one thing for my ever supportive family and friends to read, but somehow it's even more gratifying to know that people I have never met are reading it. Therefore I was happy to receive an email from Jenna in NY asking me for Bachelorette cookies for her friend's "last fling before the ring." So off to the party the cookies went...I sure wish I could have gone along. ;)

Thank you once again Jenna!

Happy Father's Day!

I have the good fortune of being surrounded by excellent fathers on a regular basis. Of course I am biased toward my own dad, who I love *very* much. My dad is one my biggest fans and always has been. Although he will not be receiving any cookies today (he is more of a strawberry rhubarb crumble kind of guy) we are looking forward to celebrating him today at the US Open.

My friend wrote me a few weeks ago and asked me to make a batch of cookies for her husband, also an excellent father. Hillary has encouraged me to persue this since the baby shower where she first saw my cookies, so I was happy to be able to do something nice for her. I am fairly certain her husband does not read my blog, so I think it's safe to post these this morning. ;) I tried to incorporate a couple of his favorite things, Penn State and wine, into the overall "dad" theme and I hope he likes them!

Thank you Hillary! And once again, a VERY happy Father's Day to all of you dads out there!

Ahoy Mateys!

This is the first day I have ever had where when a coworker asks me what I'm doing tonight, I will respond by saying, "I'm going on a pirate ship cruise." And it will be a true statement! My future cousin Sarah (who I would have HAND PICKED for our cousin JF if I could have) organized the adventure and we are really looking forward to it. Sarah has been one of my biggest cookie cheerleaders and was the recipient of MANY photo text messages as I started doing this, to which she ALWAYS replied with enthusiasm. Therefore I knew I could not go on her outing without bearing a few theme cookies. So, in addition to the 5 dozen worth of orders I had to finish last night, I whipped up some quick pirates in Sarah's honor...

We were told that theme dressing is a "MUST." What is the Preppy Cookie to wear on a pirate ship??? Well, after a couple of unsuccessful trips to the party store, I decided to go the homemade route. So when my husband walked in from school late last night, he found me heavily involved in these two projects:

It's never a dull moment around here. :)

Hope you all have a great weekend!

The Ultimate Compliment

Recently a friend of mine attended the shower where the train cookies were served. Being the generous wife that she is, and knowing that her husband is an iced sugar cookie connoisseur, she brought one of my cookies home to him. He is self-admittedly one of the more particular people I know (in a good way of course) so you can imagine how pleased I was when I received an email the next day asking for one dozen more cookies and that he "couldn't care less what they look like."

Well, I did keep it simple for him, but I still thought the cookies turned out pretty darn cute.

Many thanks to you Brian for what I consider to be a very big compliment!

Let the Music Play!

When my friend called recently to ask if I could do music cookies inclusive of headphones, I was excited to give it a try. The recipient is a big music fan and I knew I could not disappoint. I decided to focus on bright colors to make it more fun and am happy with how they turned out. (I was even happier when I received texts from NYC letting me know I had a satisfied customer!)

Thank you Ryan!

It's a Jungle Out There!

I am a girl who has always enjoyed a good animal print. It's not that I wear it often or even buy it often, but I do like it very much. So I was pleased when I got a LOT of good feedback about the animal print cookies I put in my graduation party order. It's easy for cookies to get lost in the shuffle, so I thought I would share a few leopard and zebra cookies I made recently.

It's good to be back - have a great week! :)

Beach Wedding or Bust!

One Preppy Cookie will be silent for a few days as I prepare to go here:

Where I will be wearing some of these...

and of course a few of these as well!

I will be sipping on a couple of these (just imagine the label says "Corona.") ;)

And standing by my sorority "little sister" as she does this:

Congratulations Kelly and Ryan!

See you all next week. I am at least 20 posts behind and will have plenty to share with you when I return. :)

Look "WHOOO's" One!

I love how these cookies have given me the opportunity to reconnect with many friends and colleagues from the past. And when my friend Alicia contacted me about doing cookies for her daughter's first birthday party, I was thrilled! She was one of my first orders and on the calendar months ago, so I could not wait to make her idea come to life. Alicia sent me her invitation and I tried to copy it exactly. I cut owls and hearts seperately and then attached the hearts as wings.

I hope baby, oh excuse me, big girl P enjoyed these cookies as much as her mom and I did.

Thank you Alicia!

Grad Party!

Graduation season is here! I cannot believe how quickly time has flown after my high school and college graduations. And I REALLY cannot believe that I have a significant post-college graduation anniversary coming up next May. (Sigh.)

I had a good time making cookies last week for a talented woman who did the flowers for our wedding four years ago. Considering her level of creativity, I did not want to disappoint. She asked me for a mix of graduation, college, flower and modern cookies. I took a gamble on the leopard but was happy when she texted me soecifically that she loved those.

Thank you Lisa...and congratulations on being a proud mom of the graduate! :)

Thomas the Train

I had a really fun time last week making some Thomas trains for the most adorable three year old! I did a little research before making these and was surprised to learn that Thomas is different from 'The Little Engine that Could.' I guess I need to brush up on my train books some day. :)

These cookies were unique for me in that I did some preparation in advance for them. I made my first batch of marshmallow fondant (will definitely be doing that again) for the faces and piped royal icing eyes a week or so in advance to make sure his face had some dimension.

The birthday boy's mom reported that the cookies were a hit and thanks to her I now have another character in my arsenal of tricks.

HAPPY 3rd birthday little R and many thanks to you JoLaine!

Fifty is Nifty

I will keep today's post short and sweet. (Considering the fact that I am baking 18 dozen cookies this week, I am proud to be posting at all!) That may not seem like a lot to the "real" cookie bakers, but for this full-time working girl, it's A LOT. ;)

Anyway, here are some cookies I made for a fiftieth birthday party a couple weeks ago. They must have been a hit as I just finished a big order for the recipient's daughter's graduation!

Happy Birthday Mark and thank you Melyssa!

Elmo's World

Growing up, I didn't watch Sesame Street (I was a Muppets kind of girl.) These days, however, ALL of my friends' children seem to adore Elmo. Every house I go to has at least one dancing/laughing/ticklish Elmo and "Melmo" seems to be on the first word list of many.

So when my friend asked me to make Elmo cookies for her daughter's second birthday, I jumped at the opportunity knowning that this would most likely be the first batch of many Elmo cookies to come.

Thank you Decia...and happiest of birthdays to little Miss E!
