Flirty Thirty

First of all, I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! Mine was filled with some necessities like cleaning and car shopping, but I did manage to make it to a few friends' houses for visits. One of the events we went to was Liz's 30th birthday party. I have been friends with Liz's brother and sister in law for years and they asked me to make cookies for her weeks ago. We debated about what to do and there was certainly a difference in opinions (lighthearted of course.) Her brother suggested "old ladies and cats" but her SIL and I decided on a "Sex and the City" theme inclusive of the token birthday cookies.

The birthday girl was happy with them and therefore I was too.

Thank you Sam & John...and HAPPY Birthday once again Liz!

A Little Bit (Punk) Rock 'n Roll

I am a person who is not always a big fan of change, however even I like to shake things up once in a while! So we are pushing the pink and green aside on this Friday and going a *little* bit edgier. ;)

I am thankful to have a great group of friends and particularly love how those friends have different hobbies and interests. So when my friend asked me if I could make anniversary cookies for her boyfriend themed around punk music, I was really excited to give it a shot! She sent me a couple websites of bands they liked as inspiration and I had a lot of fun doing the rest.

I loved how they turned out and am hoping that the happy couple did too.

Thank you Casey!

Happy (Football Themed) Birthday Anthony!

It is really exciting to be doing so many repeat orders for people! I recently did baby shower cookies for a friend and I was thrilled when she liked them enough to request a batch for her son's birthday party. He is a big football fan (my kind of guy!) so we worked that into the theme.

Thank you again Jennifer!

Flippity Flops

I don't know about you all, but where I live we went from rainy, somewhat chilly weather to hot, somewhat sunny weather in a matter of days. I am one of those people who has a small closet that requires switching the seasons over from winter to summer and I have to admit that my closet is currently still full of wool. (I am just a tad behind with all of this baking!) That being said, I was able to locate one pair of flip flops to take with me to the beach last weekend (not sure if tall boots would have worked there!)

I must have had flip flops on the brain when I decided to make these cookies as a thank you gift for our gracious beach house hosts.

This weekend's project is finally the big closet "switchover"...hopefully I will find another pair or two of flops to where to the pool this weekend. :)

Thank you again A family! We had a wonderful time.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my beloved mom's birthday! Of course I will not be sharing how old she turns today (I think she sincerely still believes that she is a thirty something anyway) but we will be celebrating her here on One Preppy Cookie.

I decided on some girly purses and shoes to go along with a couple birthday staples for her birthday cookies. Although I could chosen anything and she would still like it...she's just a good mom like that!

So happiest of birthdays to you mom. I hope you have the wonderful day you deserve. You're the BEST and I love you!

Life's a Beach

I just got home from a weekend away at the beach so it seemed only fitting that I delivered an order of beachy cookies on our way Friday afternoon. I loved the sound of the "honeymoon shower" they were on their way to!

Thank you Jen!

Mickey Mouse Club

One Preppy Cookie has given me the opportunity to reconnect with friends and coworkers from the past. That being said, I was happy to receive a call from a friend at a former job asking me if I would be willing to make some Mickey cookies for his son's third birthday party. He did not want faces but instead wanted the Mickey theme captured along with a bit of personalization. With little time to plan and no Mickey cookie cutter on hand, I had to improvise and learn the world of hand cutting cookies. I made a paper stencil and got to work!

These cookies went to one of the cutest three year olds I have met and I really hope he liked them. Thank you Marc!

Big Sis/Little Sis

When my friend called to ask me if I would make cookies for her friend that was about to welcome a second baby girl, of course I was happy to do it. When I found out that my ever-so-thoughtful friend wanted to be sure to include the big-sister-to-be, I was even more excited about it! After all, big sis is about to take on an important role too, so what better reason to indulge in a cookie?

And I smiled when I awoke to an early morning email sent from the mom-to-be that she loved the cookies and in fact had just eaten two for breakfast. ;) Perfect!

Thank you Abby!

All Aboard!

Whether you are on the baby train or not, it's hard not to think that these train cookies are cute. I was thrilled to receive an email from the mom-to-be letting me know exactly how cute she thought they were!

Thank you Cathy! And congratulations once again K&S!

Chocolate Chip Communion Cookies

This morning is the morning of the four Cs...Chocolate Chip Communion Cookies! I forgot to mention that yesterday's Bachelorette cookies were also chocolate chip - a recipe I am finally ready to serve after many batches of trying to perfect it. This flavor works best on smaller cookies...you may just have to eat two instead of one!
Anyway, on to the cookies themselves. I made them to celebrate a very special occasion for one of my favorite seven year olds.

Congratulations Ryan! And many thanks to your mom for the order. :)

The Bachelorette

It's going to be a long Monday as I am recovering from a fabulous Bachelorette weekend in New York City. The bride is a Lilly Pulitzer loving kind of gal (one of the many reasons I love her) and it seemed only fitting that I bring along a few cookies to add to the celebration.

So here is Lilly meets Bachelorette in honor of Kelly...

Cheers to the Bachelorette!

They're Playing Basketball

Babies to basketballs...the variety of life! Don't think I didn't make even more baby cookies this week, because I did, but we will wait until next week to take a peak at those.

Today we'll enjoy the cookies I made for my buddy Ryan's end of the year basketball party.

Congratulations to my friend and Ryan's mom, the team's COACH, on a great season!

Oh Baby!

Turns out it's baby week on OPC...who knew? I will try to change things up tomorrow. In the meantime let's talk onesie cookies. These cookies are the cookies that started it all really. During the planning of a baby shower for my friend Laura, I decided I wanted to make sugar cookies as favors for the guests. I had no idea what exactly I was taking on until I got started. The "practice" batch was rough at best, but my coworkers didn't seem to mind the terrible artwork. I kept at it until I was happy with the results...

and I really haven't stopped making cookies since. So thank you for the inspiration baby C - little did you know what your pending arrival would create! :)

Baby Love

Baby cookies are quickly becomming a specialty on OPC. It seems as though almost every weekend I or someone I know is attending a baby shower. It's just that 'season of life' for my group of friends right now!

I am always happy to make cookies for such a special occasion and these cookies for baby J were no different.

Thank you Jennifer - I hope they went over well at the shower!

Baby Cakes

I started making cake pops about two years ago to bring to parties and they quickly became a favorite amongst my group of friends. (One friend said she was even "kind of mad at me" for making them since she liked them so much!) At first I was bashful about that as the ingredients are rather straightforward and easy, but as my friend Amy reminded me, "They are a labor of love." And it's true...they can be tedious at times.

Another issue I ran into was how to display them. Enter my handy husband, who crafted this cake pop stand out of wood for me over the weekend. What can I say? He gets me. So off to a baby shower we went Saturday night, cake pops on pretty stand in hand.

And once again they were a hit.

Congratulations to our friends Kate and Sam. We can't wait to meet baby B this summer!

Happy Mother's Day

I am surrounded by wonderful Mother's every day and I truly admire all that you do. So, here's to you on Mother's Day! I hope you all are celebrated in the way you deserve. Enjoy YOUR day!

And of course I am wishing my own mom a VERY happy Mother's Day. I love you "BIG!"

Derby Day Eve

Oh Derby Day...the perfect excuse to wear a fabulous hat and sip on a julep. (And I suppose watch horse racing if that's your fancy!)

I may just partake in both this weekend, but what could be more fun than doing that with these cookies in hand?

I had the pleasure of making these cookies for a great cause last week too.

Enjoy!

Something Borrowed

I am looking forward to a ladies' night tomorrow to go see "Something Borrowed." This will be my fifth movie in nine years, so you know it'a a big occasion for me! Who has time to watch movies when you're always making the time to do other things instead??

Cookies for Kelly's recent Bridal Shower. What bride-to-be wouldn't love these? (And calories don't count while celebrating with friends!)

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week

I have so much respect for teachers. I was one of those people who always loved going to school, and I have NO doubt that my teachers over the years contributed to that enthusiasm. In fact, I always thought that I would be a teacher, although life ended up leading me down a different path.

I was happy to oblige when my friend asked me to make cookies for her daughter's elementary school teachers. We went the "school spirit" route instead of the traditional apple and I think they turned out cute.

Thanks M!

Up, Up and Away

A baby marks the beginning of the journey of a lifetime. What better way to symbolize an adventurous journey than a hot air balloon themed baby shower? That's just what my friend Katy recently had to celebrate her upcoming arrival and of course cookies were in order to share in her big day!

Congratulations!
